My music mentor, Andrea Martin left her body last Monday, September 27th, 2021.
Over the last twelve months, Andrea had helped me grow as an artist in so many ways. Introduced by dear mutual friend and creative Jeanette Villafane, we had come together to create a few demos, which in turn blossomed into a year long songwriting and full album project.
Andrea called me almost every day, sometimes in the middle of the night, sharing with me her voice of inspiration, support through stories of singing, songwriting and spirit, guided by her love of music.
"Relax, more natural, more you."
One of a kind, grammy winner singer and songwriter, producer and actress, Andrea Martin was best known for music on Baz Lurhman’s “The Great Gatsby,” “The Get Down,” & “Set it Off” and for over 50+ Billboard charting songs. She wrote hit songs for Jennifer Hudson, Toni Braxton, Leona Lewis, Monica, En Vogue, Kanye West and more.
"Don't doubt yourself. Have confidence."
Andrea took me under her wing to write and complete over 15 songs during this last year, including music for my album, music for a motion picture, as well as records in collaboration with incredible musicians and legendary artists.
"Just keep practicing, nothing is gonna stop our plan."
Over the last year, our work outside of Andrea's solo album was her main focus. Andrea shared her singing, songwriting and industry wisdom with me, coaching and creating in the studio, in our three hour long singing lessons and even on the city streets in her big and beautiful car.
Andrea shared with me her heart, her pain, her generosity, her humor and above all, her friendship.
"You can't stop destiny."
Andrea, the world wasn't ready to let you go. I trust you are with the goddess in eternal song. I'll always remember you.
Your music lives on.
